One of the most striking experiences I have ever had with my deep unconscious mind involved fear so powerful I was rendered immobile.
Having just had a really scary experience during a diving certification class, I was looking directly into the eyes of my diving instructor. Recovering from the immediate, near drowning fright-the instructor had pulled me over into the shallow water. We floated face to face, our elbows firmly planted on the lake bottom, our heads sticking above the waterline. My hands clutched the sides of my diving mask in preparation to do the thing I had just failed so miserably. ..removing my mask under water. It had been my greatest fear all along and now I had directly experienced it.
My conscious mind, and my instructor, there in the shallow water, said... “You are safe, take off the mask now”. But I could not do it, yet.
BECAUSE FEAR CAN PARALYZE YOU.
.I could not make my hands take the mask off. Tears of frustration and fear streamed down my face. The deepest parts of my mind were locked around the fear and refused to cooperate with what I wanted to do. Now that is a scary feeling, scarier than the fear of drowning itself!
YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BE PARALYZED BY FEAR FOREVER.
Eventually, I did in fact overcome the experience and have enjoyed diving ever since. It is a wonderfully freeing experience to face, and overcome your fear.
